High School Research Scholars
Blackwell High School Research Scholars (HSRS) is an opportunity for students to conduct a STEM research project with one-on-one mentorship from a PhD researcher in their field of interest.

Admission is awarded based on prior academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and potential to succeed in research.

The Research Scholars Program helps students:
1. Write an original research paper with the guidance of a mentor
2. Publish the student’s work in an academic journal
3. Complete an experience that contributes to the student’s success in college applications and beyond

Program Structure: 
HSRS is a quarter-long program, consisting of twelve weekly meetings with your PhD research mentor. HSRS is entirely virtual and flexible around your schedule, so you can do research without compromising your other commitments. HSRS students will finish the program with a final research paper that they have the opportunity to publish through Blackwell.

At the end of the program, students will have authored at 15+ page research paper answering their research question. The student will work with their research advisor to submit their paper for publication and for competition at symposiums.

Start Dates:
Applications are now open for Spring 2026 and Summer 2026 cohorts. Students who do the program in Spring 2026 may start the program at a time of their choosing between January 1st and March 31st. Students who do the program in Summer 2026 may start the program at a time of their choosing between May 1st and July 31st.

Program Format:
Each week, students meet one-on-one with their mentor for guidance through their project:
1. Weeks 1-2: Pick your research topic and develop your research question
2. Weeks 3-6: Conduct an analysis of past research and new data
3. Weeks 7-9: Draft your research paper
4. Weeks 10-12: Edit and finalize your paper.

Tuition and Fees: 
A tuition fee of $2,985 is required for participation in this virtual program. A $100 refundable deposit due upon acceptance. Tuition is not due until after the student has met their Research Advisor and begun working on their project. Financial aid scholarships are available to students who would otherwise be unable to participate due to cost constraints.
